The Problem

The Problem

Universities today face a common challenge: outdated websites that make it hard for students to connect with the right programs and resources. Legacy platforms often suffer from:

  • Clunky navigation and overwhelming content structures

  • Static, impersonal experiences that don’t meet modern expectations

  • Unoptimized mobile experiences that frustrate on-the-go students

  • Inefficient inquiry processes that result in missed enrollment opportunities

My Design Process

My Design Process

For every higher education redesign, I follow a structured design process that balances institutional goals with student needs:

  1. Competitor Analysis – Analyzing peer institutions and digital trends to identify opportunities.

  2. User Personas – Mapping out the priorities of diverse student groups (transfer, military-affiliated, graduate prospects, etc.).

  3. Wireframes & Iteration – Rapidly testing and refining layouts to gain early stakeholder approval.

  4. High-Fidelity Designs – Bringing concepts to life using the institution’s brand identity.

  5. Interactive Prototypes – Crafting unique button animations, menu navigations, and user flows that make the site feel dynamic and intuitive.

  6. Modular Design System – Creating reusable content blocks that allow university web managers to “plug and play” elements (text, video, forms, calls-to-action) depending on the needs of each page—ensuring flexibility, scalability, and easier long-term site management.

Featured Story: ODUGlobal

A great example of this process in action is ODUGlobal, whose redesigned website went on to win a 2025 Web Excellence Award. The redesign introduced:

  • A sleek new design aligned with the brand

  • Smarter program search and redesigned program pages

  • AI-driven personalization to connect visitors with the right content

  • A seamless multi-step RFI form that boosted inquiries

  • Interactive tools like a cost calculator

  • Faster pathways for transfer and military students

  • A digital community that reflects the energy of students and faculty

  • A modular framework that empowered the ODUGlobal team to update, customize, and scale content without developer bottlenecks

Broader Impact

Broader Impact

Beyond ODUGlobal, I’ve collaborated with KWall to design websites for multiple other universities.

Each project follows the same principle: build digital platforms that inspire, inform, and convert—while giving universities the tools to easily manage and evolve their websites over time.
